Brian MacLaren

Artistic creation has played an important role in Brian’s life. From the time He was a young child growing up in the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles. Like most kids, He loved to draw. His taste was influenced by Saturday morning cartoons, Walt Disney’s animated movies, and Disney land. After moving to Santa Barbara in 1984 a roommate got him interested in stained glass and he started taking classes at SBCC’s adult education division. Now center for Life Long Learning. His main focus then, was to make stained glass windows as a side hobby. For himself. Family and friends. Recently he decided to expand His portfolio to include watercolor painting. Learning this medium has involved many challenges, but he is always improving. With persistence and practice. This past fall Brian began teaching at Sundial Studios on Friday mornings. Brian’s paintings are based on his experiences so they are very personal to him. He usually works from photographs he has taken. He uses ink with water color and adjusts the layout and colors as needed. He also started experimenting with watercolor pencils. People tell him his style has a cartoon look. He would say his inner child and the adult in him still enjoy cartoons, everything from Underdog and Bullwinkle to the Simpsons and South Park. He hopes you enjoy his paintings.
